Lavender fields of Bulgaria

Summer tour to Bulgarian Provence — roses and lavender valley.

Last few year Bulgaria became world’s leader in lavender production and export. Even France is outmached by Bulgarian elndless lavender fields.
This tour gives great opportunity to get amazing shots for your portfolio. You can catch apogee of the lavender in bloom just during two weeks in the year and we would like to invite you to do it together with us. During the tour we will visit some different lavender fields with different shooting positions and will travel to one of the brightest symbols of Soviet epoch — abandoned and beautiful Buzludzha monument.

Tour schedule

Day 1 — 27th of June 2016 — flight, transfer, accomodation, shooting

Landing in Sofia or Varna airport, depending of the flights availability (we’ll clarify this point in order to minimize waiting time of all patricipants coming together), that we are moving to Pavel Banya town, where we are going to be positioned for the most time of the tour. This town is famouns for its thermal springs and lavender, rose and sage oil production.
Accomodation in twin or double bed rooms, but you can order single or family room accomofdation in case if you travel with your family or friends. After having lunch and a some time of rest, we will visit «Tazha» lavender field, to get an idea of positions for sunset shooting.
Coming back to Pavel Banya for walk around , then going to the sunset shooting.
We will visit Bulgarian restaruant, where you can try traditional local meals and drinks.

Day 2 — 28th of June — shooting, seminar

Starting with sunrise shooting at Maglizh field, then coming back to the hotel for breakfast.
We prepared fo you 3-day seminar program for landscape photography shooting and processing, by Krasimir Matarov, where you will find out all shooting details, beginning from the equipment preparation and finishing with post-processing programs. There will be rest time for lunch in between the seminar.
This day we shoot at Tazha field.

Day 3 — 29th of June — shooting, seminar

Sunrise shooting at Maglizh field, but on the different position, or we can visit one of the fields around. We’ll keep one day in reserve this way, in case of bad climate conditions. Coming back for breakfast and the second part of the seminar with Krasimir Matarov. We’ll try sunset shooting at Zhrebchevo lake, whrere one old drawned church is situated.

Day 4 — 30th of June — shooting, night photography seminar, night shooting

Sunrise shooting on one of the fields around Pavel Banya, finishing seminar with Krasi. This part is dedicated to nightscape photography, because this night we are going to shoot Buzludzha monument at Buzludha peak* and sunk church at Zhrebchevo lake* in the light of stars or accidentially switched torches 🙂

Day 5 — 1st of July — shooting, transfer to Yambol

We are going to shoot sunrise at Zimnitsa field and travel to Yambol, where will stay for the sunset and next day sunrise. After the sunrise we will have time for walking around and can have dinner in traditional Bulgarian restaurant.

Day 6 — 2nd of July — shooting, closing drinks, free time

Beginning with the sunrise near Yambol. After breakfast you are wellcome to provide up to 10 of your images for analisys and review, to get advises, how to improve your photography skills, from Krasi Matarov. We can visit winery for local wine testing or go the the thermal springs in Pavel Banya and have closing drinks, summing up our tour.

Day 7 — 3rd of July — transfer to the airport, flight back

The last day we have breakfast and travel back to the airport for having your flight back home, taking lavandula scent and gigabytes of beautifull photos with you 🙂

Tour program order can be changed due to the weather conditions or other factors.

Optionally we offer one flight with air trike (motorized delta glider) over lavender valley and nearby villages. Fot the flight we advise you to get arm straps for you camera.

Tour price: 750 EUR

Additional 5% discount is available for participants of  35Awards contest.


  • Transer from airport to the hotel and back, including all following transport costs to all shooting points in the tour.
  • 6-days double or twin bedroom accomodation in Pavel Banya resort and Yambol.
  • Breakfasts and lunches daily.
  • 4-day landscape and nightscape photography workshop with analisys of made photos (up to 10 photos).
  • Assistance and help during shooting on site
  • Test of the latest Nikon equipment.
  • Excursions to old Bulgarian towns and winery.

Not included:

  • Flight to Bulgaria
  • Bulgarian visa (whether required) and travel insurance
  • Dinners (15 EUR is average dinner price)
  • Air trike flight — 40 EUR/15minutes (to be paid at place) Flight time can be increased by your request.

Standard accomodation is in 3*-4* hotels, twin or double room, with breakfast and lunch.

Up to your request, we can provide you with single or family suite. 

Payment conditions

— 30% (225 EUR) for the reservation
— 70% (525 EUR) till the 7th of June 2016.

Full refund in case if the event cancelled by the organizer.
Full refund in case if participant cancells participation in one month before the event as latest.
50% refund in case if participant cancells participation within the last month before the event.
Final payment has to be done till 7th of June 2016 as latest.

Equipment and wearing during the tour

  • DSLR camera with wide angle lens (14 to 24mm.)
  • Telephoto lens for the flight with the air trike and long-distance landscape.
  • Macro lens.
  • Gradient (hard, soft) and CPL filters
  • Tripod and remote shutter release device
  • Headlight or torch for the night shooting.
  • Clothes both for warm and cold weather. We will shoot mainly in the valley, under the hot summer sun, but we will also shoot Buzludzha, which is situated at 1400m. above the sea level, where temperature fall down to 5-7C.
